get silly

assumedly At times it seems that everyone around me is a little bit on edge. A little stressed out.

I mean, there’s no denying that life can be challenging. So many of my own loved ones are facing truly difficult circumstances right now. Some so difficult that it breaks my heart. Perhaps you understand what I’m talking about?

And to try to say that the last year of my life has been easy would be a lie. But even amidst hardship there are things to be grateful for.

Today I am grateful for silliness.

I shot this photograph a few months ago during an engagement shoot for my friends, Dave and LeeAnn. Every time I look at it, I chuckle. It reminds me just how important it is to be intentional about silliness — because it’s so easy to get emotionally dragged down by what’s wrong – with the world, with ourselves, with our significant other, with life. In fact, it’s my favorite photo of them simply because it tells a fantastic story of a relationship between two people that’s built on love, intimacy… and mutual silliness.

And the thing I really like about silliness (besides the shared laughter and snickers and giggles and… snorts) is the intimacy it kindles. Pure, beautiful intimacy.

And I think this world could use a little more of that. A little more snickering and giggling and snorting.

So, today, let’s all get a little silly – together!
